Sequential codes are assigned in order: 0001, 0002, 0003. They are the fastest format to set up and the easiest to generate automatically.

The problem is that the code carries no product information at all. A picker holding a box labeled 0047 has no idea what is inside without looking it up. Use uppercase letters and numbers. They scan cleanly, display consistently across systems, and cause no formatting surprises in CSV exports.
